Marching French Horn Audition Instructions

The Mustang Band only utilizes marching French horns. If you only have access to a concert horn or a mellophone (using a horn mouthpiece), feel free to use it for your audition. (If accepted, the Mustang Band will provide you with a Marching French Horn to use throughout the fall and winter quarters.)

If you need additional information, please refer to the marching French horn information document and/or the marching French horn fingering chart.

Finally, If you do not own a French horn or mellophone, please contact your current band director to see if you might be able to utilize one for the audition. Otherwise, please email Dr. Waldron in order to schedule a live audition (at which point you can use one of our instruments.) As stated earlier, if accepted, the Mustang Band will provide a Marching French Horn for you to use throughout the fall and winter quarters.

To audition on horn, please submit a video recording of the following:

  1. Chromatic Scale 2 Octaves G to G
  2. Any 2 selections from the marching French Horn Packet
